Hey guys I'm in the fence of whether I should tint my GTR. On my past vehicles I've tinted them (18%). So you could still see the outline of the person driving. I live outside of Pittsburgh because so the cops don't seem to car but if I drive in the city or other areas man do they flip. My concern is with the GTR getting more attention is it wise to do this. In PA they can pull you over for tint alone and give you 130+ ticket for it.

My friend actually owns a tinting shop and it's like 300 bucks for 3m tint.

They offer:
35%- hardly looks tinted
18%- shadow outline of driver
5%- can't see into the car at all

I would love to get 5% but I know I'm just asking for trouble.

As always thanks for your help guys!

Just keep in mind that the GT-R (along with most other cars these days) come with 91-90% tint from the factory already so whatever you get you will need to take that into consideration as it with compound. For example, say you get 70% tint you will actually end up with around 60% due to the factory glass.

Really? I didn't know that. Yeah that definitely would factor in on my choice

Hi Charb35 -

I purchased my R35 about a month ago and decided after the midpipe that tint was next on the priority list of things to do to the car. I work from home so I don't have to commute to work, but what I have noticed is that during weekend drives during the day, depending on the quality of tint, the tint keeps out the heat and sunlight making it a more pleasant drive. I purchased the pro nano ceramic tint which is proven to keep out 80%-95% of UV/heat.

I was in the shop looking at different tint and the representative turned on a heatlamp in a box. Slid a regular tint between the bulb and my hand and it made nearly no difference. When he did it with the pro nano ceramic tint, it was night and day on how much heat was repelled. So quality matters substantially.

I did not go the 5% route, but did not want to be too transparent either and went with 18%. It was a great choice - IMO, not too dark, but not too transparent either. I have a friend that works in the law enforcement and emphasizes that dark tint on a supercar is the last of their worries.

Hope that helps.

Best,
pdoan

Pdoan,

Your post was extremely helpful. Couldn't agree with you more that the quality of tint is extremely important. Something you don't wanna be cheap on. Even thought the mark up on tint crazy. I'm thinking 18% is probably the way to go and I've enjoyed that kind of tint % on the vehicles I've owned in the past.

My friend also offers tinting tail lights. While i think it would look nice, don't want ppl struggling to see my taillights and get rear ended lol

Got mine tinted and bra'd immediately after I bought it, and have never looked back. I didn't go very dark--just 35%, but it's legal. I just don't want that headache, if I can avoid it. Plus, on resale you don't have to worry about a buyer asking you to pull it off cause they're worried about it not being legal.

I am definitely glad I had mine tinted, because the car does get a lot of attention, and I am a pretty shy and private person--i.e, I don't necessarily want to appear on someone's YouTube channel. Pretty much every time I go out, I spot SOMEone with a camera up. So yeah, definitely glad she's tinted!

Completely agree with you don't want the headache of dealing with it if it was too dark especially selling it.

After having mine for a month can definitely agree you got everyone with a video camera or phone trying to take pics. Don't want my face on the Internet, I don't even have a Facebook haha

I used to put 20% tints on my car(s)....my last 3 I left untinted. It looks meaner with tinted windows, but I've moved past it. I got a few tickets. I'm going 'grown man style' now. No tints on anything. It's all a personal preference.

clear bra and tint are the first things that should be done to these cars! especially with all the people that love to take pictures of godzilla when it rolls by and you dont feel like waving or being a nice guy.

Yea that's why I thought it be worth asking ppl preference. Maybe in a couple years I may go without on my next vehicles time will tell.
