Transmission Upgrade Questions

I was looking into Upgrading the Transmission possibly, I'm looking into getting a COBB AP, Midpipe, and a custom tune soon. I know lots of people run these mods on stock tranny no problem but i'd rather be safe than sorry. I have read that changing the circlips, clutches and lip seals are a good start. Not sure if a 1st gear upgrade would be recommended? I don't plan on going over 650whp anytime soon, and i know with those mods i'll barely be at 500-550awhp, i plan on just sticking with the stock turbos as well. I want to basically do whatever it takes to reinforce my Transmission, to avoid any major ( expensive ) problems.

I'm pretty sure if i installed the mods and didn't upgrade the tranny eventually it might lead to problems and Nissan would deny warranty after reading the blackbox and so on, and since the tranny seems to fail the most, i'd rather beef it up a bit for safety purposes as mentioned before..

I would mainly be running 1/8 , 1/4 Miles... Not looking to road race anytime soon

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I have not purchased my GT-R yet but am thinking the exact same way as you. I want the extra peace of mind knowing it will be less likely to fail especially considering the closest certified dealer will be a 12 hour drive away!

Eventually I will have the "stage 0" kit installed by Jeremy Blackwell's team at Speed For Sale. I emailed him and had a quote and time for install in minutes. The price is very fair and I have read a lot of good things about Speed For Sale.

Hope this helps.
I would get a quote from ShepTran. Just give him your HP goal and future mods and he will get you a package for your needs.
If you plan on sticking it out on stock turbos. Then you I honestly don't think you need to build your transmission. Just get a good solid fluid like the Willall or Dodson and a cooler.

So long as your launching with VDC on you're cool. IF you were going to do road racing I would suggest all 3 mechanical gearlocks that Dodson offers.

With the revelation of LC4 which should be released shortly for non 2012 cars. I think that launching for the 1/8 and 1/4 should be even less stressful on the gearbox. The stock clutches are very good and well within the limits of your expected power levels on stock turbos.

PS. you wont see 650whp on stock turbos.

Its been a little while since I updated this page. I will get it updated. I have a current Dodson price and parts list.
I'd look into installing the shims on the gear selectors from Nissan or just buy the Dodson gear selectors. Doesn't involve removing the transmission, just the Actuator Control Module (valve body). Can be done on your next fluid change.

What exactly do the shims do?
any other recommendation guys
If you are certain that you are to stick with these mods and do not aim high hp, I think you can stay with stock trans. However, since you stated that you do 1/4 mile and stuff, it is always safer to upgrade the trans as you may lauch the car then. My gtr does not have high hp but I upgraded the trans since I want to be safe than sorry. But do keep in mind that upgraded trans can be jerky sometimes, especially when it's cold according to my experience anyway.
