Quick track feedback:

* Thunderhill - pretty much out in the middle of nowhere. Fun track, relatively low cost and tons of run off room. When you go off track at Thunderhill, you can basically go for about a mile before you would be in danger of hitting anything, so it's a good place to push your skill limits. Downside is there is nothing else to do within an hour+ drive of the track.
* Laguna Seca - Iconic track. A must drive for anyone in Norcal in my opinion. Looks pretty much exactly like it does in all of the video games and a decent amout of run off room if you are pushing things and head off tarmac. Also in a great area (near Monterey) so you can combine track time with some sightseeing and relaxation.
* Infineon - Only been to this track once. Lower speed track, and is the scariest of the three by far. Not a lot of run off room and in some places, you have 2-3 car widths and then some nice concrete barriers if you go off track. Very near wine country.

Quick club feedback:

- NCRC - low cost, low frills club. Fun group and provides what you need if you are mainly focused on track time. I do most of my track outings with NCRC.
- Hooked on Driving - high end club. Provides food, instructors etc. Good for beginners or if you need some expert 1:1 instruction to get you to the next level. Also good if you like walking the paddock and looking at high end cars.
- Trackmasters - pretty much in between the two above.
- I've never run with SimRaceway

If you need to go to a dealer, I would recommend San Leandro Nissan. Good reviews from everyone and their prices seem much more reasonable than most of the other dealers in the area. Unfortunately, we do not have much in the way of aftermarket tuners for the GTR in Norcal, but PM me if you want my advice on where to go for a cheaper-than-dealer fluid change or alignment.

Hope that helps.

I would love to do Thunderhill on 4/7. I've only been roadracing once in Nevada so any additional info/tips would be greatly appreciated!

Incon306, did you say you were road racing, or just tracking once before in general?

Wilson, i'm a drag racer so please excuse my ignorance. I have been road racing on 1 occasion in the past at Spring Mountain Motosports in Nevada. It was a 3 day course that was provided along with the purchase of my ZR1. What is the difference between "road racing" and "tracking"?

jeff,

Road racing generally means, you are actually in a race against other cars in some form of competition.
And tracking means driving on a race course , not racing against other cars, and for fun.

Interesting. I was definitely not road racing then... just tracking.

Yo Icarus got any plans to do another track road trip out there? I want to go again this summer, possibly starting in early to mid June... I plan to be in Vegas for the weekend before the 4th to have some fun too...

John - we should have invited you on the original trip! I saw that last summer you drove your car all the way from TX and ran Buttonwillow so sounds like you're game for adventure. I would like to make another trip there, but probably not for a while. It's really hard to find track days at multiple tracks within a week's timeframe. I would like another shot at Infineon, and would like to make it to Buttonwillow although that's even further south. Give me a call and we'll talk... cheers.
PM me your number again...

FYI, I am possibly leaving on the 8th of June to do the following:

June 9-10 - Hallet in Oklahoma
June 15 - Thunderhill
June 16-17 - Infineon
June 22 - Laguna Seca
June 23-24 Buttonwillow - yes will be tough doing the long drive then the event but I have done this track before though don't know the config.

If I don't do LS I could do Willow Springs again on the 20th. So yeah you could squeeze in four tracks and six days of driving into ten days! Do it!

DAMN! Awesome write-up! Thanks for sharing.

You guys are awesome. I give you much props for coming out all the way here to track. Hell, we have members that are way closer than you guys that are too scared (or make up cockamamie reasons) to even track their cars.

If you're interested, myself and a few other GT-R guys will be doing Laguna Seca with SpeedVentures on June 29 - June 30 (I'm doing June 30).

jmunjr, do Laguna Seca, Willow Springs pales in comparison.
