I am looking to replace the speakers in my car, the Hertz HKS 165 component speakers seem to be the brand of choice. Anyone else have recommendations for other brands of speaker to use for the GT-R?

Thanks.

Does the factory system have enough power to drive these speakers without adding amp?

Good question does anyone have an answer? I recently contacted an audio outlet and he quoted me 14k to redo my GTR sound system.....
Wow, what all are you having them do? That seems really, really high! What components would they be using? I can't see it costing that much unless you are doing an all -out show-quality install with a bunch of custom fabrication and all top-shelf components.

If you're not doing something high end, I would definitely getting a couple more quotes to compare.

That's what I thought let me dig thru my e-mails from the guy and I will copy and paste it all for you to check out?

I highly recommend Morel, and Adrey is right, you need an amp and something like an LC6i to integrate it. Not 14k worth of stuff, unless you're going nuts, but it's not cheap either.

Another great set is MOREL . We are an authorized dealer for them also.

Here is the link to them.

Adrey,

Please PM pricing for Morel front component speakers and subs, do the subs drop in to the factory locations as well as the other speakers? Amp options would be great as well, I am not looking for a show car set up, just something that sounds better than Blose. Thanks.

Here is what the "installer" said:

Here is what I would recommend:

Audison Bit One
This will allow me to attach all of the new audio components to the factory head unit. It will also allow me to correct the crummy audio signal coming out of the factory head as well. This also has a killer EQ built in making the factory head unit an ideal audio source.

Front Speaker
Focal Kevlar 3-way

Rear speakers
Focal Kevlar coaxials

Subwoofer
JL Audio W6

Amplifiers
Alpine PDX (3) of them

This install would be about $14K and we will not modify anything in the car. The vehicle will be able to go back to factory if or when you decide to sell it. NOTHING WILL BE CUT.

14k??????!!!!!!!??????

Morel, Hertz, Audison, Genesis are all top quality audio. As many gtrs we have done, we have first started with the sub woofer upgrade and gone up from there depending on the customer needs. The Morel subs are great and also fit in the oem sub enclosure. If you are the customer that wants alot of bass then this would not be for you as a seperate enclosure will be better. Also, to correctly use the oem head unit, you will need a good processor. The one we recommend is the Audison Bit One. The processor is not needed if just adding a sub to the system, only if the mids/high are added. I have added a few pics of our setup we did with our GTR a while back. On our car we wanted to keep the car looking as stealth as possible while having a great sounding system.

Hi Wingnut, I'm new to this site. Love car audio and am an active competitor in the IASCA sound quality circuit.
I was intrigued by that install quote. I have to agree that 14K sounds like a lot unless you are truly going to get a top-shelf system and custom installation at the showcar type level. Will they be doing extensive sound deadening, battery/charging system upgrades, custom speaker and amp enclosures? If not, then I would be cautious. The level of install should be that of the Specialized Performance pics above or better if you are dropping that kind of cash.
I've been to shops in the Seattle area, is it CarToys?

Lunchbox no not Car Toys but a custom shop here in Wa!
I agree with you about price this is a shop that deals with high end cars I guess and customers like players and such for sports teams I didn't know that part? But should it matter?
I feel as though he wanted to rip me off for owning a GTR
