Valvemaster exhaust?

Has anyone here used a Valvemaster exhaust? They are a Canadian company offering very reasonably priced titanium valved exhausts in 3.5” or 4”. The valves are vacuum actuated, but use an included electronic vacuum actuator that mounts in the trunk so you don’t have to route a vacuum lime to the front of the car.

I saw this on Throtl’s GT-R build. It looks like they used the 90mm version. The 102mm titanium version is only a couple hundred bucks more. It works out to $5,397 CAD / $4,200 USD. With the THROTL 15% off discount code it would be $3,570. This seems like a really good price for a full titanium, valved 4” exhaust. I’m seriously considering this. I’m only reluctant as I have never seen or heard of this brand outside of Throtl and price almost seems too good to be true... hence the post as I’m curious if others here have any experience with this company.

I went ahead and took a gamble on this. I ordered their 4" titanium valved exhaust with burnt titanium tips. I'll post up my impressions once it arrives from Canada and I've installed it. This isn't a really well known brand but it checks all my boxes for a good price. (4", Valved, Titanium, bellows joints, manually controllable).

My current mid pipe and exhaust carried over from my past GT-R is leaking at the mid-pipe flex joints so it has gotten progressively louder on cold starts and cruising. The drone gives me a headache now on the highway and my kids and wife don't like ridding in the car anymore. I like how the Valvemaster system uses bellows joints that are less prone to failure. I also like that it uses vacuum actuated valves (that are less likely to fail then electric) and how these are run off of a trunk mounted controller instead of having to run lines up to the engine. I thought about just adding a new mid pipe with a resonator to quiet things down but I want my car to have the option to scream at WOT and quietly purr when cruising on the highway.

With the valves open and mufflers bypassed, I'm sure the car will sound great through the titanium pipes. My only concern is how quiet a 4" titanium system can be in quiet mode without a resonator in the mid. Customer support swears there is no drone with this system with valves open / closed with stock downpipes and no drone with valves closed with aftermarket downpipes. With stock downpipes and valves closed they report it is nearly as quiet as stock. We shall see.

+1 Following this as well, my car is still stock. Any chance you'll sell your old setup😆? Once I'm legal to buy on here of course!

You would need a new mid pipe (any 3.5" Mid pipe would work), but I believe the cat-back section is fine. This exhaust came with my first GT-R and I swapped it with the stock exhaust that came on my second GT-R. For the longest time I didn't know what brand it is, but I'm pretty sure now it's a top speed pro 1 (HKS legamax clone). It's nothing fancy, but it sounded nice before my mid pipe developed a leak in the flex joints.

Exhausts are a pain to ship but I see you're in NC just an hour south of me. If you're willing to pick it up you can have it for free (or in trade for your OEM cat-back section as I could put that on if I ever sell my car).

FYI, my Valvemaster exhaust will take 15-20 business days to manufacture and 10-13 business days to ship if there aren't any shipping delays. You may have another exhaust by then, but I'll ping you when it's removed in case you're still interested.

That’d be perfect for picking it up! What mid pipe did you have on there before? Guess I could just purchase the ETS one. Anyways I’m not gonna be doing anything soon. I’ll hold out for ya! Thanks Rick!

No problem.

The mid pipe was brought over from my first GT-R as well. I'm not sure what brand it is, but it looks like HKS non-resonated, or something similar.

Most of the performance gain with exhausts on these cars is from the mid pipe and downpipes. An aftermarket cat-back with stock turbos is mainly for looks and sound. When picking out your mid-pipe, you may want to think about if you plan to add downpipes or not. Many people add non-resonated non-catted mid pipes when downpipes are stock and they are happy. This will provide nice power gains and sound with or without aftermarket cat-back. If you later add cat-less downpipes, the sound and smell can get pretty harsh from what I've read so many people end up switching to a resonated and or catted mid pipe at that point. Lots of great mid-pipe options: ETS, HKS, AAM, Got Boost, Boost Logic, Borla etc.

exhaust system sounds good...... quality will only be known 5 years from now. Akrapovic is still best in quality..

I am extremely interested in hearing your impressions vs what customer support's perception of quiet and no drone. The level of quiet is always a subjective thing so it's hard to say whether someone else's quiet is what we expect especially when catless downpipes are involved. The only way to compare is using measured dB data but, even then, that doesn't tell you anything about drone.

Akrapovic is nice, but I wanted something valved. This seems like a well thought out system. Don’t think I’ll need to wait 5 years to pass judgement. Quality should be apparent at time of installation based on fitment finish and ease of installation.

Yes, sound is very subjective. Some people swear a setup has no drone while others swear it does.

I'm still on stock downpipes but I will post some sound clips in and out of car and throw an SPL meter in front of it and provide my impressions.
Following as well. Any update?
These are built to order with 15-20 days to manufacture and 10-13 to ship internationally. I recently got a notification that exhaust has been completed and shipped out so it sounds like it should be here in a couple weeks provided no shipping delays.

I bought a decibel reader so I can take some measurements in and out of car with valves open and closed. I’ll post up vids here.

Hey, sorry for the delay. I received the exhaust in good shape on 2/7, about a month from when I ordered as expected.

There aren’t any great tuner shops where I live and the few local exhaust shops I called sounded wishy washy with their comfort level on a multi-piece titanium valvetronic exhaust install. One said to bring it in and unpack it all so they could look at it before deciding if they could do it (a few weeks later).

I decided to just buy a quick jack 5000TL and do it myself on the weekend. I got the quick jack last on sale week but need to set it up, bleed it and let the thread sealant cure for 72 hours. I work in microprocessor design and we are taping out a chip right now so it’s been hectic with crazy hours the last couple of weeks. As soon as the chip is out I plan to take a few days off for r&r and tackle the exhaust. I’ll be sure to share results here.
Ok, because I made an order for a 4" titanium line and it was to get your feedback, it's been a little over a month since I ordered it.

And possibly if you have photos
Good luck on the install! Let me know if your still willing to part with the old catback!

Thanks. Yeah man, you're welcome to my top speed pro 1 (legamax clone) catback if you want to trade for your stock one. That is the one stock part I don't have for my car. If I ever sell my car, I'd like the option to put my car back to stock.

I've got some family events planned this coming weekend but I'm tenatively plan to pull my exhaust the following weekend.
