I use HKS Heat Range 9. Are there any other good contenders?

perfect choice.
just stay with HKS 45HL they are the best.
One of the top GTR shop recommends stock plugs no matter what power level you're in and that's what I have in my 770whp car.

gt-r is behaving the plugs very nicely unlike many similar cars running the same hp level so you will most likely be fine for both stock and hks plugs.
The stock plugs are a heat range 8, which generally speaking is a pretty cold plug. As cold as a normal/race style plug I know of is about a 10 in a NGK range.

The stock plug is a double fine wire plug. Run off a coil on plug setup.

On the race car RB26 powered GT-R's we used the handbuild NGK iridum non projector tip, fine wire plugs. http://www.gtrusablog.com/2010/05/rb26dett...park-plugs.html

The old HKS iridium plugs used to be Densos, which I don't recommend for any car or lawnmower.

+1 ... I have discussed this with my tuner about changing plugs several times....and he always asked me to keep the stock...and i trust him.
The non projector type NGK plugs are stupid crazy expensive plugs. Like $39 a piece or something if I recall. They are the best from the people I hear who use them but not often used. I'm a big fan of Iridium NGK plugs in a 8 or 9 heat range. I've used 10 before in other street cars but it probably wasn't needed.
I use the NGK-R R2558A-9

It's the non-projector type Sean described.

Nismo used the same/similar on the Super Taikyu cars. If you are road racing, running some heat in the engine, its something to consider.

Most guys don't like the price on them, but they do work. Never had any luck with other plugs on the RB engines.

I like the NGK Iridium- ix for street cars. They are fine. However, once you start to really run a car hard. Not street light to street light. Not 60-130. Not 1/4 mile at a time. You need a plug that is not going to be a hot spot in the combustion chamber. You need something that will fire in a combustion chamber under harsh conditions.

The double fine wire non projector - $40 each plugs are that. Think about this a 600 hp V-6 car is making 100 hp per hole. Any misfire can be costing you that 100 hp per hole. Not a big issue with the relatively new VR engine, but as the cars get older, the bits and pieces get some miles on them, its something to consider.
Nickto, does the NGK-R come pre gapped to the GT-R specs and where did you buy them from?

We have experienced misfire's due to using factory plugs at a certain high HP. It is better safe to consider changing plugs out while you're installing injectors.
We use stock plugs on even our 1360whp ALPHA 12 shop car

Eric
Really? Well that settles it for me then! Stock it is! Haha
Hello
How often do we need to change spark plugs?

Thanks!
