Other than a few tuners like Amuse, just wondering have any of you guys tried 20x10.5 front and rear. This would appear a better set up imo for a 4WD car. Certainly Amuse reported better handelling and less understeer.

In October Enkei are releasing a 20 inch GTC01 Monoblock wheel. I'm going to try these out, very few aftermarket wheels do it for me other than these. I may also try their 19in set up in pursuit of getting into the 10's 1/4 mile

Didn't Nissan experiment with lots and lots of rim/tire combos during the development of the GTR?

If it were a "better" setup like you say (why do you say this btw -- what evidence do you have to support this notion other that hearsay?) don't you think they would have gone with that?

my post clearly states Amuse

ok to be MORE specific Amuse report better results while at Fuji speed way. Different tire, wheel size combs will always net different results in different situations. Its just the concept of 10.5 front & rear appeals to me.

no, look at Pheonix thread (talking with an R&D guy)... the 19" wheels produce better numbers and better downforce... they went with 20's for a more aggressive look....

I am looking at 19's also... i may try the gram lights 57 or if I can afford then the TE-37 time attacks....

Good choice though Ben...

manufacteres have to look at things also like ride comfort and tire noise and run flats etc.....

plus tire/performance wheel options open up signifigantly at 19"

do they have 19x 10.5?

I've done this many times on other cars and typically race cars will have a closer tire width from front to rear. A wider front usually will produce more grip and less understeer. Many car companies intentionally put smaller tires on the front to enduce understeer which is safer for the general population. As you become a better driver, the more oversteer you appreciate and can handle.

The common problem with larger front tires is less sensitive steering inputs, heavier steering and slower reactions from the car/chassis. It's always a trade off. I personaly will have a wider front wheel and tire for the track.

i thought amuse just swapped the rears to the front and the front to the rear? thats what i remember them saying in the best motoring vids.

TIRES & WHEELS:
Background:
The OEM wheel / tire (with Bridgestones) combo is $1700.00 to replace, each.....ouch and weigh upwards of 67 pounds each (wheel and tire).

I was looking at getting a different wheel / tire combination for the street to get better longevity; TD said:
"The VDC will be slightly more intrusive the harder tire you go with; i.e. softer tire, less intrusive because the computer doesn't sense as much slide as on a harder tire".

Apparently, the GT-R has the same lug pattern as the Nissan 350Z, but with a greater offset. Two other sets of wheels have been tried from the following website:

http://www.mackinindustries.com/md/rays/forgedmonoblock.html

The Time Attack Series: TE37 and CE28 were both used. A forged monoblock wheel should be used because tires can have a tendency to spin on the wheel. Additionally, a weaker wheel has the potential to succumb to torsional forces with extreme torque conditions on the track.

The Good News:

He remembers them fitting 18s, but 19s are probably a safer bet. These are light weight wheels. A "weight decrease approaching 20 pounds per wheel / tire combination will create a huge gain in unsprung weight"; i.e. "much faster, stops faster"

What are good / ideal hot tire pressures at the track?

29 psi on the Bridgestones; that was all they were able to go to on the track in LV. TD stated he would probably try upwards of 32 psi hot if given the chance under different conditions.
NOTES: "slip angles don't increase much because of the stiffness of the run-flats".

Other wheel / tire combinations pending on Tuesday. He is going to try and get what they used at Buttonwillow.
mcr has some wheel spacer for the rear but they have 19's in the same wheel, i like enkies alot!

they also have the 20's in too! http://cba-r35.blogspot.com/2008/08/mcr-r35.html looks nice on the car!

your car will go faster with smaller size rims, but the larger rims will likly be better on say an auto-x course due to less sidewall to swish around.
