California eliminates the temptation for FBO. Just a mild Ecutek tune with catback. Focusing efforts on reversible cosmetic mods. I have about 40 feed of LED lighting on the car now, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper and less risky than a 1000 HP build. And even more fun at carshows.

Your engine dress up is very cool sir. Definitely a sight to see ! I bet it looks great in person. What part of Cali are you in maybe we can all get together for a drive soon!

I have a smog guy in LA if you ever need it. He does anything mods etc will pass the car. Great to have in your back pocket and doesn’t charge a fortune.
Thanks for the offer. I know people who knows a guy too. Just don't want to deal with it. Power is good enough for now.

I’d say the only benefit to staying stock : Oem is resale value ?
That's a big one, but I like the reliability and indisputable warranty repairs too. I was big into the car scene in my late teens and early twenties. If I've learned one thing from it, it's that the more mods you have the more likely for something to go sideways. Spent enough nights chasing electrical gremlins, troubleshooting rough idles, and fooling with lean/rich AFRs to last me a lifetime lol.

I'm thinking about it. Then again I think I want a Workhorse WHP1000 package, maybe.
We are having an amazing special right now on our C800 package stock motor car. 30% off. Feel free to shoot me an email ( same name ) If you are in the market for some awesome upgrades and a killer deal!

Just tell them it's FBO they wouldn't know if that bothers you.

Funny when I tell people mine is stock mechanically too. I also have only done reversible cosmetic mods, suspension, midpipe, and a cobb tune for 91 (I'm also in CA) I did years back that's easily reversible.

its just such a big bang for the buck mod. totally safe for warranty inexpensive and adds sound and even a little power. all pros no cons
Thanks for explaining that, MC. I've only had my '24 since the end of May but have been considering going FBO. But going to a midpipe is an interesting alternative, at least for the interim. What midpipe did you go with?

I bought a 2010 that was previously modded/tuned and then put back to stock. Besides some creature comfort stuff like installing a large screen infotainment and some front/rear camera implementation (since the early years did not have backup cameras) I will probably leave it stock... at least for a little while.

I went with the NISMO USA pipe but its been discontinued. honestly most pipes are the same just got to decide between resonated or not and a brand you like

I live in california. Not much I can do. Powerwise, it is stock. Had a mid pipe but took it off to smog. Just suspension mods and supporting mods for now.
srsly, why? what about sport cats, 200 cells metal cats?

Thanks, MC. I don't drive my GT-R often and have little worry/concern over bothering neighbors with exhaust note. As for drone, that's not a concern either because I don't drive for long periods.

I keep mine stock (except for an aftermarket midpipe) mainly because I prefer the reliability, knowing that I can take it almost anywhere to get it fixed (not sure of any shops in area good with modded/tuning GT-Rs), mods (higher than FBO) are not too good investments time & moneywise, and it will pass whatever state requirements for cars are implemented (smog/recon).

However, these views change if I lived near a shop like Cicio (as long as I don't have to do smog) because they are fluent in these cars, stand by their products (WITH WARRANTY!), downtime will be minimized, their products/service prices are very reasonable, always hear great things about them.

I have a 2014 that is pretty much stock besides an exhaust which came w/ the car when I bought it. I was looking for a stock one or close to stock and this was as close as I could get at the time. (For reliability reasons)

I've owned the car for about four years now, and the thought of going FBO has crossed my mind. I am not sure I want to drop lot of money into mods or upgrade to a Nismo or an T Spec.

The smart choice is probably to upgrade vs spending money on mods which is money I probably wont get back.

The question is have you driven one that is at least FBO? Crazy the difference how the car feels compared to stock, and I'm not out street racing or beating on my GT-R but when I want to do some pulls or just spirited driving the car is just a different animal.

I second this. For my previously owned '09, that I bought brand new, I went FBO. Later when I put it up for sale, I had very little interest, even though I went with a known tuner and used only good parts. Once I went back to OEM parts and removed the tune, I had no problem selling the car. And the aftermarket parts weren't a wash, because the worst I made out was reselling some at 50% off.
