R35 attention as a daily?

Hi everyone, new here and contemplating if i can pull off an R35 as a daily in Minnesota. Last year I had a 991.2 Turbo S in Miami blue and I loved the car but not the attention. For the really bad weather I have a Subaru outback to blend in, but I would probably outfit the GTR with snow tires.

Regarding the attention factor (or as my wife put it, the "spectacle"). At a gas station talking to a fellow car enthusiast who spots my car, I love those encounters! People at random taking pictures on the highway, I'm not really into that. (this happened with my 911)

So my question is, in a discreet color like white or silver, can an R35 blend in? It's just a Nissan!? Or am I deluding myself that this will be another spectacle that my wife will despise.

Final caveat, I want a late model car, like 2020 or later, no mods, and if I had my choice it would be a premium or maybe a purple T-spec. But the T-Spec may create the same situation as the 911 that my wife didn't enjoy.

Thanks, looking forward to real world input from this group on what a day in the life is like with these! I have some other older BMW's in my collection, and my son has a 2021 Civic Type R and my wife's daily is a 2017 Toyota Land Cruiser. So not a stranger to Japanese cars but I'm mostly a German car guy.

The only people that come up to me are car people that know what a GTR is. I'm OK with that... It's better than someone that doesn't know anything, seeing something flashy and bothering me. One of the many reasons I chose a GTR is because I didn't want attention from random people at stop lights, gas stations, etc.

I've been through Chick-fil-A drivethrus and they mark it down as a mustang 🤣

I'm happy with my choice.

Outstanding! This is what I was kind of hoping is the case. It's weird but I don't want the flashy car judgments but I still want a supercar that is an awesome halo car for me to experience semi privately.

Sooo... does a purple 2024 T-spec cross the line to be too ostentatious?

I have a 2024 Takumi T-spec (originally Midnight Purple) but it is covered in green color shift PPF. I get people filming me or trying to race me all the time. Last night had a kid roll by in a Prius filming with his flash on as I was stopped at a light. You might have better luck with silver which I think looks really good and is more understated (had a 2024 Supersilver for 1.5 months before the Takumi). And just so you know, the Midnight Purple on the R35s is REALLY dark. Anything other than direct sunlight and it is going to look pretty much black. I know it might be heresy, but that's why I went ahead with the color PPF over it. Even in the showroom it looked way dark. Another guy local to me has a 2021 or 2023 T-Spec in Midnight Purple and I've seen him swap spots with other people during meets to stay in the sun. Might help with the attention, but the gold wheels might counteract that haha

I'm in Houston and I get more much more attention on my GTRs (23 Red Nismo and 24 Takumi) than I do on my Porsche (991.1 Lava Orange GT3RS and 997.2 Red GT3). I mean every gas station visit, restaurant valet and golf club visit receives photos / comments on the GTRs. I believe there are much fewer of them on the road versus Porsche, which seem to be everywhere.

I own a 2024 super silver and daily my car. I take it to work all way to take it for grocery shopping. I will tell you I have had it over a year and the attention it gets is different from my M4. See there are a lot more bmw fan people than GTR I would say from experience. It’s a discreet car, it does blend in pretty well. The people that have the eye and know a GTR will come up and talk and take pics. For most it’s silver 2 door car. I live in socal, I guess cars here you will see are most likely more expensive such as lambos, Ferrari and other models in that higher category. I guess my thing is if you know you know type of people.

I am 6500 on my 2024 and got in April 2024.

Btw have you guys performed any service . I just all my fluids and front brakes with rotors I don’t know how the brakes got finished so fast but they did. So laid around 8k for all service plus 1 year optimization

I have replaced rotors and pads with Paragon Performance slotted with P3 pads. They were like $2150 shipped for all four rotors/hats, pads, and titanium shims. Did the work myself. Very easy. That whole your wet OEM brakes rusting together was annoying me. Also went to Michelin PS4s 285/35 front and 295/35 rear. AMSOIL and filter every 3500. Next oil change at 10k. My 12 month POS is a few months out as well.

Thanks everyone this is very helpful.

I won't be buying anything from BMW. I'm a 25 year BMW Car club member but all they've done in the last 10 or so years is continually disappoint me. That is what caused me to go Mercedes AMG, then Porsche, and now has me considering a GTR.

Well, you are definitely walking in the right direction.

Happy hunting…

For me (2012 Gunmetal GT-R with modified decals), I almost always have someone giving me a smile and wave whenever I go out. One day...6 times...between other cars, pedestrians, and motorcyclists! I like it, and I always talk nicely to interested people and answer any questions.

Mostly OEM but do have exhaust and an APR wing. I can expect at least 3-5 people per trip out into town either flashing lights, waving, or commenting "nice car" if they catch me getting out or in. Like what was said before, only people who know GTRs will do that. Definitely not nearly as much as what any other exotic or supercar would get.

Probably about the same amount if not a little more attention than my 2016 STI had.

ha..........interesting.

I've owned a 16 premium and ended with a 16 Nismo. 80% of the time no one knew what the GTR was.
It fit in like just another car.

Then I had enthusiasts that would almost fall out of their cars following my Nismo.

It's a hit and miss. My Turbo S gets more attention.

I do not really consider a 911 a rare car unless we are talking GT3/RS, they are everywhere here in one form or another.

I did drive my friend's G82 M4 for a bit and that car get a lot of attention from the younger generation.

I think a lot of this depends on where you live and what's common to your area. Here European cars are quite normal (911, Lambo, Mclaren) but Japanese halo cars are quite rare.

I live in Florida where 911's and Corvettes are a dime a dozen, even if the Turbo S' and Z06's (and soon the ZR1). But everytime I take my GT-R out, someone is always raving about it. And surprisingly even non-car people. I've had families come up to me in parking lots and gas stations and tell me what a beautiful looking car it is, and then ask what it is. So you have that genuine appreciation, along with those that know what a GT-R is. It's the latter that can be an annoyance. For me it is mostly trucks like Raptors that want to prove their performance cred, or worse, guys (and gals) on sport bikes.

Yep, just yesterday I got the “cool car, man” from the guy next to me at a stoplight. Car still garners attention as a rarity. My best gawker story is a guy in a Honda next to me in stop and go traffic. He gave me a thumbs up then tried to take a pic with his phone. While doing so he hit the car in front of him, then flipped me the bird like it was my fault!🤦‍♂️

Wow, that makes no sense at all. But probably the same people in my development who give me stinkeye when I walk past their house with my dogs on leashes, and their dogs aren't and the owner has to chase after them.

In Michigan, my silver 09 is much more enjoyable to drive than my corvette was. The vette used to be "wanna trade", "wanna race", or "rev it up" every stoplight, gas station, or parking lot. The GTR has been much less of that thankfully.

The most attention is usually at the pump for me, which I don't mind because the ones that approach seem to be more genuinely surprised to see the car in person (usually for the first time ever). The only people on the road that seem to notice are young adults, or enthusiasts that don't recognize it until I'm close or already passed them.

Every state / city is probably way different. In MI, a old silver one just blends right in despite being exceedingly rare in my area.

I live in Melbourne, FL and I can go months before I see another GT-R, unless I go to a Cars & Coffee. Corvettes and Porsches you will see everyday. I previously owned a '19 C7 Grand Sport and a '21 C8 Stingray, and rarely was ever noticed. The GT-R is all the time, even by people who aren't car people. People have come up to me and said, who, I don't know what kind of car this is, but it's beautiful.

I live in Switzerland and i see BMW and porsche everyday. sometimes vettes or generally american cars but not often. but gtr‘s i spot 2-3 times in a year

Being that we have year round great weather here in Florida, that's why you will see a lot of Corvettes and Porsches, especially convertibles. But if the top end trims are seen, such as a 911 Turbo/Turbo S or Corvette Z06 (and soon, ZR1) the average Joe or Jane will still "only" see a Porsche and a Corvette). BMWs, MB, and Audi are a dime a dozen, and most are SUVs or sedans, and not usually the M, AMG, or RS trims. And as I said, GT-R's are a rare sighting. Speaking of American cars in Europe, when I was stationed in southern Italy in the early 90s, I had my '86 Buick Grand National shipped over. That really drew a lot of attention. I was once paid the equivalent of $250 USD to drive a bride, her father, and flower girl to a church wedding. The groom's father paid and wanted a big black American muscle car.
