If you've had any type of transmission failure (including differential, AWD unit, gears, internal sensors/clips/etc), sign in.

Please provide:

Model Year (US Assumed, Specify if global)
Relevant ECM/TCM Code(s)
Symptoms of failure
Approx ODO at time of failure
What were you doing at time of failure
Mods at time of failure (Specifically: Reflash ECM? Reflashed TCM?)
Track use pre-failure (miles or XX minute sessions or track days, # launches on lc version X, etc)
Warranty filed? Date (mm/yy) Approved?
Any thread links or other notes you might have

I'd like to ask everyone who's had a failure to participate. This will help the community to better understand transmission failures in the GT-R and also help with decisions regarding extended warranties. We might also be able to see patterns in failures and Nissan's warranty policies with regards to model years, miles, usage, etc.

Year of your R35:
2009 EDM UK

DTC Code:
P0732

Symptom:
when trans temp reach 190F the trans is unable to engage 2-4 gear..and faults to P0732. Check here http://www.nagtroc.o...in/page__st__20

Mileage when damage occured:
15500miles

Modifications (if any):
Engine mods, trans TSB metal clips, Willall fluids since 6000miles. Never launched, trans temp never reach above 230F

Conditions (what were you doing when it happened):
Normal city driving

Was it warrantied by Nissan?:
Grey import so no warranty

Nissan dealership involved:
No

Was the car purchased new or used:
New

What exact parts failed in the GR6 transmission (if known):
After getting P0732, TSB metal caps were installed but problems persisted. Furthermore, all o-rings, clutch, clutch seals, and seals looked perfect when disassembled. However, three pressure sensors showed signs of deterioration from 6month log on Consult III http://www.nagtroc.o...essure-sensors/. Therefore most likely fault is failing pressure sensors. All three pressure sensors were upgraded to Dodson sensors. EDIT - Test result shows pressure sensors were not the issue as P0732 still appear. EDIT2 - problem solved. 2-4 Position Sensors replaced (grey rectangle part on the valve body).Case closed.

Hi All,

Last September I got Transmission failure while driving on the german autobahn.
Limp mode and only 2/4 gear. stop/start didn´t reset and did not bring my cobb accessport.

32.000 km now and failed again after 600 km this time!

After having the clutch burned while AAA tried to get the car on a flatbed the dealer then later diagnosed the problem as being an oil pressure sensor malfunction.
Cobb installed so no warranty in europe (yeaahhh), 8.000 USD later and 5 month wait due to missing parts and a defect first replacement oil sensor, I collected the car only to get a PO777 and PO747 code while driving at 60mph on highway! after reset with cobb accessport (now always in the car) I decided to proceed to the track day event I was heading to. NO FAULTS while racing but threw codes when idling for to long???

Gearbox now has to come off again (3rd time on 32.000 km) to try and fix the problem.

I love the GT-R on track and the racing oils and improved oil pump on gearbox kept the temps in check during the trackday.
BUT I will suggest you always bring a tow truck where ever you bring your GT-R.

Killer on track though.

Feel free to write me with any questions.

OH and European GT-R service is non existing!!! very poor service.

May 8th I visited the dealer for fitting new Dunlops. Before picking up the car I was told that the car threw a transmission code. A day later it was diagnosed as needing "Install Metal Caps on 3 of the shift pistons in the transmission Actuator Control Module (ACM)." (Per the US service bulletin). Since it was close to the mandated 30000 km transmission and differential fluid change I had the dealer change the fluids. I picked up the car today, May 23.

I was driving back home (The local HPC is 200km from where I live). I noticed the transmission was shifting VERY smoothly. I put the trans into neutral when I stopped for some traffic about 170 km from the dealer. The transmission light came on and from then on it was only able to shift to 2-4 and 6gear. The car went into limp mode. I drove it back home in limp mode, parked it and called the dealer for a tow back.

When I started it again, about 15 minutes later, it was shifting fine. The car will be flatbedded back to the Prague HPC tomorrow morning.

I'm dissapointed as this is the first real problem I've had with the car. Frankly, transmissions SHOULD NOT FAIL at such low mileage (16,000 miles)!!! Especially in a car that costs $120,000 (In Europe)

I was thinking of buying a Juke for my wife, but after this I think we'll be skipping Nissan.

Well my trans died on Sunday... I was driving on some back roads with 3 lambos and then my "clutch temp" light came on and the car would rev not not move. I pulled over, shut the car off and then started it. Then it came up with a t/m malfunction. I ran the code with the Cobb. It's a po797. Piston problem in the trans... I lost all the even gears. I drove the car home in limp mode.

2009 gtr

Code- po797

Has 37k miles.

Mods-

Intake, Cobb 006, downpipe, injectors, pumps, ypipe, 2012 intake pipes. Also has Dodson trans fluid.

I did talk to Nissan about it. They asked me to bring it in. Made it sound as if there would be no problem getting it taken care of. I have a aftermarket warranty so my thinking was lets get the trans built for 1/2 the cost of a new one. Long story short I will take the car in this weekend to get everything started.

Update.

Nissan said its the valve body that has gone bad. They also Nissan has a TSB for the valve body. At this point they are taking care of it. Kinda wish they wouldn't, I could of had the trans built...

New transmission ok'd and overnighted by Nissan and replaced and she's back in my hands only after 1 week. Great service rep and techs at San Leandro Nissan in NorCal. Big props to Nissan for making things happen quickly. New transmission feels much smoother. More responsive. Don't know if the new ones are just better or that I've been having transmission problems for a very long time. Nevertheless, turned out great for me. Best of luck to all who are still waiting.

i'm a newbie here and just bought a used 2010 GTR with 9500 miles i will post the specifics later when i have all the documented issues but here's a quickie; my car went to the dealer for a check up and factory updates since i just bought the car (all stock) the cert tech recommended a whole new factory freah 2012 tranny for my 2010 GTR free of charge with a loaner. I will post everything when all done hopefully next week. Good day everyone.

Can you update this with specifics, the reason I am curious is your signature shows yours is an E85 GTR meaning it is tuned. Just want to confirm that they replaced the tranny despite the ECU flash (ie tune to do E85) or was that before you had the flash? Please clarify? How is the new tranny working for you?

Dealer was great to work with, and some of the tuners on here were absolutely wonderful in giving me advice off the board. I really appreciate it and realize what a great community this is. Nissan rep made dealer clear codes, car was driveable after that. Took an extended road test with GTR tech, as I know what metal on metal sounds like. And I was not comfortable taking the car back with old tranny, during test drive all was good. To my surprise, until I decided to give it 50% throttle, on the 2 > 3 shift and 3>4 you could hear a faint crunch, we repeated it multiple times. The tech confirmed it, nissan told him to inspect inside tranny and I guess they found damage and authorized new one.
New part number 320A0KJ10A > is this the 2013 one? And if so, do they change the cooling lines to 2013 models also?

Car drives MUCH better with new trans and 2013 (LC5) software. Much smoother clutch engagement when taking off from a stop or manuevering in a parking lot. Overall less gear whine on the hwy, and less GT-R clunkety noises that I had gotten used to. It's a different car now...

Thanks to Sharif from Forged Performance. Also thanks to Regal Nissan of Roswell Ga, once approved, the GTR Service Rep (Robbie) located the parts, had them shipped and delivered in record time; I got my car back on 26 October 12, Regal Nissan also noted that my car had the Bell Housing issue and installed the related service Bulletin at the same time.
